UGC SPONSORED PROGRAMMES

1. Retraining of Teachers

Retraining of teachers is a regular phenomenon in our institution. Usually the retraining of teachers is organized just before the commencement of new academic year. The UGC sponsors the programme. The participants are all the faculty members form the self financing courses and members from the regular stream who have put less than ten years of service. This year the three day programme commences on 09 June 2009. On the first day sessions on communicative English is imparted to the participants. Sessions on Psychology and Sociology are done on the second day. The third and the final day is ear marked for subject skill development.

2. Functional English

During the Eleventh Plan, the UGC has sanctioned a sum of Rs.7,00,000/- to the institution towards the teaching of Functional English. A maximum of 40 students can be enrolled in a year. The total number of classes allotted is 90. Examination is to be held during the first week of March.

3. Retail and Rural Marketing:

Presently the Department of Commerce is offering this course which has been sponsored by UGC. It is a Post Graduate Diploma course offered to the current UG & PG students for which a sum of Rs.5,00,000/- has been sanctioned.

4. Cyber School

Yadava College in collaboration with the UGC and Indian Bank Madurai Circle has established a Cyber school at the nearby village, Andaman. This school has 15 computers with modern configuration. A DTP trainer is in charge of the centre. He imparts computer training to the villagers in and around Andaman. An amount of Rs.3,00,000/- has been spent to establish this center.

5. Remedial Coaching

Remedial coaching has been a continuous feature in the academic environment of Yadava College since 2001. In the X and XI plan period, the UGC has sponsored Rs.3,68,000/- for the programme extended to the students belonging to SC and ST and a further sum of Rs.3,68,000/- has been sanctioned for the programme of similar kind given to the students belonging to OBC and minorities.

6. NET/SLET coaching for SC/ST/Minorities:

Yadava College conducts NET/SLET coaching for SC, ST and Minorities with UGC assistance. This programme is being conducted from 2008-09 onwards
